James & Amy Hanken
As history proves, only good things come out of the historic small town of Templeton, Iowa, and Madame Mary is no exception. Her story begins when creator James Hanken set out on a quest to find the 'Holy Grail' of Bloody Marys. James ventured through countless drinks, unending happy hours and infinite taste tests until he decided he'd had it with Bloody Mary mixes that didn't measure up. With six years of tending bar under his belt, James decided to concoct his own version, mixing a spicy, yet well balanced Bloody Mary for his customers. While the custom creation earned him rave reviews, the Madame didn't become a muse until James started to receive ample encouragement from family and friends to bring his product to the market.
James knew from experience that most bottled mixes sacrifice quality to be produced in quantity and he wasn't willing to do the same. With a "perfection or bust" anthem, James set out to produce a superior Bloody Mary product that he would be equally as proud to serve as he would be to put on the shelf. He spent the next two years in his small town Templeton kitchen, working with professionals in the speciality food industry to hone his expertise while meticulously crafting and readying his original recipe for production.
When it came time for production, James employed an exclusive small batch cooking process that helped ensure the Bloody Mary quality and flavor remained true to its origins while ensuring consistency across batches as well. The result of his painstaking efforts was a premium, full-flavored mix with a genuine homemade taste, strong enough to stand on its own. In December of 2012, one week before Christmas, the first bottling was released and Madame Mary was officially born.
Since then, the Madame is quickly becoming the Bloody Mary Mix of choice among the classic cocktail's connoisseurs. A family-owned and operated company headed by James and his wife, Amy, their passion for quality is demonstrated across all phases of production. Madame Mary continues to be headquartered in Templeton, Iowa, as the company is firmly grounded in their small town roots and committed to enhancing their local community.
